Wii homebrew guide v1.1

This guide will be covering how to setup and install the homebrew channel along with installing .wads which are used for Wiiware, Virtual Console, and more! This guide is for Wii systems ranging from 3.0 to 4.2. Anything lower (Or higher if there happens to be a new system update if you're still reading this guide) will probably not work correctly.
Note: Doing any hacking or modification to your Nintendo Wii could indeed brick it and render it useless. I take no responsibility for any damage you cause to yourself or the console. Use this guide at your own risk...

What You need:
A Wii console.
Hands.
An SD card.
The HackMii installer. (Included in the .rar.)
The Bannerbomb Exploit. (Also included.)
A computer. (Windows only... I will not cover the Mac or Linux OS. Though, the setup process should be the same.)
SD card reader for your computer or something available that allows modification of the SD without reader.

Part 1: Format the SD card...
Note: You should know that formatting the SD card will erase "ALL" data currently on the card and it would be wise to backup files that you want to keep. If you could care less, then carry on..

1. Open up "My Computer"

2. Right-click on the drive that contains the SD card and select Format....

3. Under File system make sure you select FAT format.

4. Click "Start" and let the process finalize.

5. After the formatting is finished proceed to the next step.

Part 2: Moving the files to SD card...

1. Ensure that you are able to transfer files to the SD card.

2. Extract both the Bannerbomb exploit and the HackMii installer to a remote area, such as your Desktop.

3. Open up the folder called "hackmii_installer_v0.6" and move "boot.elf" to your SD card

4. Move the folder called "private" to your SD card and you are now one step closer to modifying your Wii for homebrew goodness.

Part 3: Time to set up your Wii!

1. Please power on your Wii Console. Do not enter your SD card until the Wii is at the main menu.

2. Time to run the Bannerbomb exploit.
For Wii system updates ranging from 3.0-4.1, Go to "Data Management > Wii > Channels > SD Card."
For Wii system update number 4.2, Click the SD card icon in the bottom left of the Wii Menu.

3. A window should appear "Load Boot.dol/elf?"; select "Yes".

4. If process was successful you should see a disclaimer. If not, Repeat steps above. Still no? I don't know what to tell you.

Part 4: Installing the necessary programs...


1. You should be presented with a screen that features "The Homebrew Channel", DVDX, and BootMii. Select continue.

2. Afterwards, You can choose to install the HomeBrew Channel. The other programs are optional. DVDx allows DVD discs to be played (requiring a special program for them to actually play) and BootMii is a system designed to enable complete low-level control of the Wii. It allows the Wii to be controlled mere moments after the On button has been pressed, before any IOS has been loaded and before the NAND filesystem has been read.

3. I recommend installing BootMii as Boot2 but if not available then IOS is fine. Boot2 is only available for older Wii models.

4. Congratulations! If you follow the tutorial above and everything went smoothly, you should now see the Homebrew Channel on your Wii's main screen. If you open it, You'll see only a blank screen. That's because you have nothing the homebrew channel can launch yet. You can get the Homebrew Browser which you can only use while the Wii is connected to the internet. It shows several applications, games, and more without even taking out your SD card. I will include the Homebrew Browser in this tutorial as well.

5. Homebrew Browser: Place the HBB folder in your "Apps" folder on your SD card. You must first run the Homebrew Channel for the Apps folder to show up.

Note: If you're one of the late-comers to the Wii party you may have had to install BootMii via IOS. In that case you have to run BootMii by going into The HBC and hit the "Home" button on your Wii Remote. Place your cursor onto the "Launch BootMii" selection and press A.
