How to Rip a T.V Series DVD to DivX/XviD
This is my first tutorial so bare with me, I?m only 16
Introduction:
I?ve seen a lot of people asking for a tutorial on how to do this in the ?Beginners Guide to Ripping and Uploading Movies? tutorial and with a few changes I think I?ve found a way to rip T.V Series DVD?s into good quality DivX/XviD (avi) files.
System Requirements:
A Decent computer (you could use any computer I guess, but I converted 1 episode on a 333mHz P2 and it took over 20 hours, so anything Pentium 4/Athlon XP or above will do the job in a reasonable amount of time)
About 12GB of free space per DVD (for the conversion process only)
Tools Needed:
DVD Decrypter ? This is the software we will use to rip the raw files off the DVD.
Download:
AutoGK 2.4 or newer ? This software is to convert the files from the DVD to DivX/XviD (avi) files.
Download:
Method:
This method is for the structure of DVD that I used, not sure if there is different structures of DVD?s for T.V Series, but if there is I can?t help with that as I only had 1 series to work with.
For this tutorial I will use the ?Family Guy ? Season 1 ? Disc 1? DVD.
Step 1: Setting Up DVD Decrypter
First go to ?Tools? then to ?Settings?. Select the ?IFO Mode? tab and set all the settings the same as the picture below:
Then set the DVD Decrypter?s mode to ?IFO?
Step 2: Creating Folders for individual Episodes
Ok before you even start creating the folders, check that you have enough disc space for the files that will be copied from the DVD and also the converted files, bout 12-16GB of free space all up.
Now, make a folder and name it how ever you want, I chose the name of the DVD and the episode numbers:
Now In this folder make a individual for each episode on the DVD and name them, I chose to name each folder with the ?EP#? and the episode name:
Step 3: Ripping the Episodes from the DVD
Ok well first set the destination folder on DVD Decrypter to the folder of the episode you are going to be ripping:
Then find the VTS containing the episodes of the series you are ripping, in my case they are in ?VTS_03? and they are 20-23 minutes long, and select the episode that you are going to rip, hopefully they will be numbered, in my case I am ripping episode 1 and it is named ?PGC 1?:
Now check that:
- The destination folder is set to the episode you are going to rip
- The right episode is selected
- All the chapters are selected
Then start the decryption:
The decryption will start, the time this will take will vary from computer to computer, mine took about 3 minutes and I have a Athlon XP 2500+ and 768MB of ram:
After the rip you should have an .IFO file and a .VOB file:
Repeat these steps for each episode you are ripping.
Step 4: Converting files to DivX/XviD (avi) files
When you have ripped all the episodes, close DVD Decrypter and start Auto GK
Then set the Input file to the .IFO File of the episode you are converting:
Then set the output file to what ever you want, I saved it in the episode?s folder with the ?EP#? and it?s name
Now that you have that part done, set the language to the one you want and set the subtitles if you want them, and also set the ?Output Size? to custom and according to the length of the episode, e.g. for every 10minutes, 100mb is allocated, I used English Audio, no subtitles and set the size to 200MB:
Then check ?Advanced Settings? is set to ?Auto? in ?Output Resolution? and also in ?Output Audio? then chose your codec, I personally use XviD:
Then ?Add Job? to the queue and repeat process until all of the episodes are in the queue, then press ?Start?:
Then it?s just a matter of waiting until they are all converted, on average it took about 55-60mins per episode for my computer to convert an episode.
Once they have been converted the folder containing each episode should look like this (you can delete the files marked with red rectangles):
And that?s all, your done. Hopefully this has been of some help to people out there.
If any one has anything to add on, I?ll be happy to add it to the tutorial!
